The Silent Destroyers of El Paso Homes

Termites cause an estimated $5 billion in property damage annually in the United States โ€” and most of that damage happens before homeowners even know there's a problem. In El Paso and the surrounding desert region, subterranean termites are the most common species and among the most destructive.

As a company founded by Master Home Inspectors, we've seen firsthand what termites do inside walls, crawlspaces, and foundations when left unchecked. Early detection is everything.

7 Signs You May Have Termites

1. Mud Tubes on Walls or Foundation

Subterranean termites build pencil-thin mud tubes from the soil up to wood sources. These tubes protect them from predators and keep them moist. Check your foundation, garage walls, and any exposed wood near the ground.

2. Hollow-Sounding Wood

Tap on wood surfaces around your home. Termites eat wood from the inside out, leaving a thin shell. Wood that sounds hollow or papery when tapped may be hollowed by termites.

3. Discarded Wings Near Windows or Doors

Termite swarmers (reproductives) shed their wings after finding a new colony site. Small piles of tiny wings โ€” all the same size โ€” near light sources or windowsills is a strong indicator of a nearby active colony.

4. Frass (Termite Droppings)

Drywood termites push their fecal pellets out of small holes in wood. These look like tiny wood-colored granules or sawdust piles near baseboards, window frames, or furniture.

5. Buckling or Bubbling Paint

Termite damage can look like water damage โ€” paint that appears blistered or uneven may indicate termites or moisture damage underneath. Either way, it's worth investigating.

6. Tight-Fitting Doors and Windows

As termites damage wood, the structure can warp and shift, causing doors and windows that suddenly seem harder to open or close. This can be confused with seasonal humidity changes but shouldn't be ignored.

7. Visible Termite Swarms

If you see a swarm of winged insects โ€” especially in spring or after rain โ€” near your home, take it seriously. Termite swarms typically last 30โ€“40 minutes and indicate an established colony nearby or inside your structure.

What To Do If You Spot Any of These Signs

Don't wait. Termite damage is cumulative and exponential โ€” the longer you wait, the more expensive the repair. Our $125 inspection fee is credited toward treatment if termites are found, so there's no reason to delay.
